Sometimes after the clay has dried I find it necessary to smoothen the piece with some sand paper before it’s put in the oven for the first burning. The clay at this point is fragile and it’s a risky process.

Yesterday I lost a dragon; at first just his leg, and I thought maybe that can be fixed with a bit of diluted clay as ‘glue’, but then another leg came off and then the tail, so I had no choice but to put him down. It didn’t feel too good either. Not because I thought it was such a great piece, but whenever I work with clay I can’t help but wonder if perhaps the pieces get a little bit of life into them after all.
